Mastara reservoir ESIA

ESIA for a new reservoir on the Selav Mastara River that would supply gravity irrigation and cut groundwater abstraction from the Ararat valley basin.

The assignment

Armenia received a grant from the Europe and Central Asia Region Capacity Development Multi-Donor Trust Fund, governed by the World Bank, to prepare the feasibility study, preliminary design and ESIA for Mastara reservoir. The reservoir is planned in the bed of the Selav Mastara River, 4 km north of the Armavir canal.

The reservoir would supply gravity irrigation to communities downstream of the Armavir canal from its 27th km, stop the operation of deep wells and reduce annual water intake from the Ararat valley underground basin by about 3.3 million m³.
